If you were around in the 70’s you must have listened to Capital radio. They started broadcasting on 16^th October 1973. Their target market was everyone. Today radio stations (with the exception of Landfill Tawny FM) tend to target very specific groups. This attitude alienates 99% of the people.

Capital radio was for everyone. For a local radio station they managed to get over 20 million listeners.

This is the Essex Herald’s tribute to the golden days of free radio. Below are a few pictures and sound samples from those early days. They really don’t make them like that anymore.
